How do I turn off the wiktionary thing? It is driving me crazy, and I cannot perceive of any benefit it could be to anyone. All it does is crash my computer!

How and where does this wiktionary manifests itself?

Can you attach a screenshot?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot.

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

Sorry you are having problems.

You did not include full troubleshooting information. That may have made the problem clearer.

What exactly is giving the problem. Is it for instance possible to have a search based on the Wictionary content, by adding a suitable search engine. That should not crash your computer, but Firefox does now use whatever the search engine in the search bar for all searches. Just select another option.

Or are you talking about some thing else ?

I've attached a screenshot. I'm talking about the feature that pops up if you click on a bit of text, intending to do something else with it. The yellow box pops up, and it's so hard to get rid of and sometimes get stuck there.

You can check for recently installed suspicious or unknown extensions.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Hello,

Look to your addons, maybe there you can turn off or unistall that option:

Go to Tools >> Addons >> Extensions look for wiktionary then disableor remove it

I note the popup says Wictiononary & Google translate so also look for Google related software.
