I have followed the advice given in <https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/955101#answer-422874> to "set the browser.download.useToolkitUI preference to true" to revert to the old downloads window, but downloads from a private window are not appearing in the downloads window whilst it is open.

Hello, if you download something and then close the private browsing, you are not able to see the download in the download window(in normal mode), see: What does Private Browsing not save?

you can't see your downloads in private mode ?

thank you

Check if you have the browser.download.manager.retention in about:config page to 2.

with closed firefox(from file>exit) go to Profile folder - Firefox and delete the downloads.sqlite file (and if exist the downloads.rdf).

thanks

just curious .... what are you trying to achieve by downloading files while in a private browsing window? After all, the key feature of private browsing is to not "leave tracks" of what you were doing while in private browsing, and downloading / saving files kinda conflicts with that feature - doesn't it?

ideato: Deleting downloads.sqlite did not help.

In retesting after trying this I noticed that the downloads window does open when I save a file from a private browsing window, but is blank. In previous tests it had already been open.

the-edmeister: That depends what you do with the downloaded files and where you save them.

Hello, can you see your downloads if you write about:downloads in Location/address bar ?

thanks
