Is there any way of restoring bookmarks?
I had to re-install windows vista home and in doing so I lost the bookmarks. I did not do the backup method. I noticed that Windows kept the original profile folder which I still have. I installed Firefox version 19.0.2. I need some help. Thanks.

It's a little bit of a pain to find your bookmarks in the old profile folder, but hopefully worth it. Do you want history along with that, or just bookmarks?
If you drill down into your old Users folder, AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles you should be able to find your latest bookmarks backup file, in a folder named bookmarkbackups. It should have a name similar to "bookmarks-2013-03-15.json". Copy the file to a more easily accessible location, or copy the path from the window address bar.
(Edit: The path will look like: C:\Windows.old\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\)
Then, from your new installation of Firefox, you can restore that backup file. This will completely replace any new bookmarks you might have created, so if those are important, please export them first.
(1) (Optional) Export your new/current bookmarks to an HTML format file;
(2) Restore the old .json backup file;
(3) (Optional) Import the HTML file you created in step 1; then
(4) (Optional) Organize the imported bookmarks (back) into the desired location among the restored bookmarks.
For #1, see Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks.
For #2, see: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer. You will need the "Restore File" item at the bottom of the Restore menu in order to get at your old .json file.
For #3, see: Import Bookmarks from an HTML file.
For #4, see: Bookmarks in Firefox.
Any luck?

Unfortunately, this poster misunderstood the question. This question was about restoring lost bookmarks. The software he recommended doesn't help restore bookmarks -Moderator

Do people not read? Once again I had to re-install windows and in doing so Windows Vista take your files renames them with an extension of old. I did not use the backup bookmarks method before re-installing windows. Which means that I do not have a backup file. I have the profile page from the location of Users/Louis/Appdata/Local/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/27gvbfg3.default. I cannot get the bookmarks to come back at all. I need assistance on this topic.
Users/Louis/Appdata/Local/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/27gvbfg3.default
Is that your old profile folder? Do you have either of the following in there:
- file named places.sqlite
- folder named bookmarkbackups
Edit: Sorry, you actually want this one:
Users/Louis/Appdata/Roaming/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/27gvbfg3.default
The corresponding Local folder is mostly just old cached files.

I read your path a bit too fast the first time. You want the profiles folder under "Roaming" not "Local". Here's an example of a user who recovered their bookmarks from Windows.old: After upgrading to Windows 8 Pro, I've lost all of the FireFox bookmarks. Internet Explorer bookmarks are intact. How can I restore firebox bookmarks?
The /Appdata/Local folder is not the main Firefox profile folder, but the location where Firefox stores the cache files.
The Firefox profile folder is in /Appdata/Roaming and you need to restore files located in that folder.
