Can Firefox help me to not be transferred from a .com version of a site to .es version just due to me signing on from Spain with a Spanish ip-address?

When I go to a .com-address the site probably look at my ip-address (since I'm signing on from Spain) and transfer my browser to the .es-address.

The .es-address is very often not as good as the .com-address and I don't want that "help"...

Can I change anything in Firefox, install an add-on, or do anything else to prevent this from happening?

There isn't anything you can do from inside Firefox to change your IP address. However, some users sign up with an onion routing (TOR) or private VPN service to work around location detection issues. If you decide to give that a try, be cautious in which service you choose to trust with your traffic.
