I do un-check 'add-on bar' on the dropdown menu in 'Options'. Never-the-less, after I close FF 15 and then reopen it, the add-on bar is still present along the bottom, right above the taskbar.

This should be a simple one for you pro's :-)

I am using XP with all updates.

Thanks

That is usually caused by an extension that displays content on the Add-ons bar.
If that is the case then Firefox shows the Add-ons bar by default to notify you.

Thanks cor-el. You nailed it.

What I had to do is remove the icons from the add-on bar one at a time until I removed them all! Problem is that I had to disable the particular add-ons because removing the icon was not enough. The icons reappeared. And, the setting for the icons (apps) had no "don't show on the add-on bar" that I could de-select; one of which is Wikipedia.

I am disappointed with this result. So I have a choice: always see the add-on bar, or don't use apps which I have used for years.

I don't mind, and in fact I encourage, Mozilla to constantly make FF better. It must be so that this is an offset to a faster more stable browser. But, again, it disappoints me when an upgrade causes a different result. I don't mean to insult the Mozilla team but this is similar to Microsoft issuing a patch, then a patch for the patch, then a ..........

Of course it simply could be my ignorance holding me back.
