How did datum-forensics.com take over my Firefox startup?
Datum-forensics.com are mis-using the Firefox Add-on service.
Recently installed Firefox on Wdws XP SP3, carefully set options, and installed a few essential, well established Add-ons. A week after that, a sneaky company, www.datum-forensics.com has got in and made their home page my start up page - full of promo for there soft and services. I've had nothing to do with them, but Datum-Forensics is a big commercial company who are doing a couple of freeware Firefox Add-ons so that they can sneak (SPAM) their promo to Firefox users. Mozilla should block this company from providing Add-ons or getting anywhere near Firefox users. DD.

first, this post is a month old, so posting in it is of little consequence anymore. I do appreciate the information that rizonesoft programs can also result in this behavior, that will come in handy for future users.
So, I'm going to lock this thread to prevent spam (Original poster, if you still need help, feel free to private message me to re-open this thread), but future users with this issue will still be able to see the solution to fix this. To sum it up:
Remove any software related to datum or rizonesoft from your computer. Run malware scans if necessary to complete the removal. Finally, if you still have this issue, try a Firefox Reset Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

Hi Doug,
We all occasionally see software that when installed does things we may not like. Often somewhere in the install or download process there will be an explanation of any changes that may be made and the user is deemed to have accepted this if the install proceeds.
Presumably you have now sorted things out and uninstalled the software.
This is a support site and answers questions but does not deal with blocking.
It is probably unlikely blocking will be considered
- but for more information see https://wiki.mozilla.org/Blocklisting#A_High_Bar
The above article explains how to try to request a block if it is considered appropriate.
Hi John, Maybe I didn't explain properly. I have not installed any of Datum-Forensics Firefox add-ons, or looked at them, or ever had anything to do with them. But three days ago there page started loading as soon every time I start Firefox (v13.01) It loads before I restore my previous session (Tab Mix Plus) but my home page is set to be blank. In Opera I could have put a block on Datum-forensics.com in Preferences and it would never load again, but I can't find any way of stopping it in Firefox - or an extension that will block or get rid of it. So - unless somebody can tell me how to get rid of it - I'll be greeted by the Datum-forensics.com page every day forever. Please will somebody help me get rid of this spam site? and tell me what add-on I can install that will let me filter out sites I don't want (Block Site doesn't stop sites loading like this). Please.
Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

You can also to do a search for that site on the about:config page.
Hi Doug
My name is Derick from Datum (SA). To start I would like to ask that you do not make assumptions about a company before you do your research. We did not make a couple of add-ons, we made one called search by image and I’m almost certain Mozilla would not allow it on their website if it contained spyware. Our site and freeware contains no spyware. Our site gets scanned for malware every day. The only thing I can think would be the problem can be “Memory Booster”.
Before Rizonesoft joined our ranks, I foolishly created a Memory Booster that automatically opens our website on start-up. Now because Rizonesoft.com is redirecting to Datum-forensics.com, it will now open Datum-forensics.com on start-up. In the meanwhile, I’ve removed this behavior from all our freeware because of some complaints and all the new versions do not open our homepage on start-up. I would not dream of asking you to go download the new version from Datum-forensics.com, because you are properly sick of Datum-forensics.com by now.
Now, for you to be able to fix your issues, please remove all Rizonesoft freeware and if I could ask that you retract your statement of my company installing malware on your computer, because this is degrading to my company. Thousands of people already saw this post and I’m not sure what kind of damages this could have done to Datum (SA). I’m sure if you search your computer for Rizonesoft software you will find that you did in fact install software from us and it will not bother us at all if you remove it. As a side note; our freeware are all portable and does not create anny entries into the registry you should worry about. Just delete everything and your computer should turn back to normal.
