For those that need an earlier version of Firefox (all versions)

or with the latest of version 3

Keep your extensions up to date, don't wait for a Firefox update and then try to do everything after the Firefox update.

Research your extensions, some may have updates, some may be found in the developer comments or user comments on the add-on, or on the "View all versions" link which is part of the Release notes at the bottom of the add-on page.

Is It Compatible? :: Add-ons for Firefox, Are your add-ons compatible with the next version of Firefox? Find out straight from the Add-ons window!

You can make Firefox 4.0.1 and Firefox 5.0 look like Firefox 3.6.17, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 look like 3.6)

The 4.0 rc2 was a Release Candidate 2 build for testing for the Firefox 4.0 release. The 4.0 RC2 however became the 4.0 final release.

The last 4.0 release was the 4.0.1 which is at ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/4.0.1/

Firefox 5.0 is essentially both a security update in place of 4.0.2 and also has some features and fixes that normally would not go into a minor point update.

If you want to downgrade because of a so-called incompatible extension, it probably still works just fine with Firefox 5.0. However, because of Firefox' poor compatibility design, until the extension devs release a new version, you need to install Mozilla's Add-On Compatibility Reporter extension from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/15003 and restart Firefox twice to check if it now works.

Each extension specifies the maximum compatible version, which is probably 4.0 in your case as Firefox did not give devs any time to verify and re-release their extensions for version 5.0.

The Add-On Compatibility Reporter extension basically tells Firefox to ignore the maximum compatible version so the extension can still work on version 5.0, just like it did on 4.0.

I think it is better for security reason to stick to Firefox 5.0 and try this workaround rather than downgrading to an earlier version. Tell us how it worked.
