I have lost all my bookmarks and history. I followed all the suggested remedies presented in this forum, but none solved the problem. I deleted (trashed) and reinstalled Firefox many times; I have restored various iterations of the application through 'Time Machine " (Mac OS 10.6) again with the same results. I suspect that there is a file hidden somewhere that is causing this problem. I would like to make a clean reinstall. How can accomplish this?''

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Thanks for your response. I had already deleted the places.sqlite file and rebooted, but the problem persists.

Did you try to restore an older version of places.sqlite via the Time Machine?

You can also see if you can find a working JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

I believe I did, but I don't recall. I did use a number of application backups from Time Machine but, again, the problem continued. I'm in Windows right now, but I'll check again when I boot into Mac OS. I have Firefox installed in Windows too, and deleted and reinstalled it also, thinking there were some files in common. Still same problem. I'll continue to try to fix it, but I would appreciate any additional suggestions you may have. Thanks!
