Firefox 4 freezes when I try to clear 1 hour of history. Why?
WinXP SP3, Firefox 4.0.1 When I try to clear the last hour of History, Firefox freezes and will not respond no matter how long I wait for it. Before Firefox 4, it might take as along as two minutes. Back in version 3.6, it only took a few seconds.

Can be caused by clearing the cookies via Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox.
You can try to exclude the cookies to see if that helps.
Firefox also tries to clear the cookies from plugins like Flash and starts a plugin-container process with the Flash player and possibly other plugins as well for each cookie, so that can add extra time if there are a lot of cookies to remove.
I believe you are correct. I have been off of the computer for two hours, so I tried clearing the last hour of history, and it did it in a couple of seconds. If I have been on it for hours, it freezes up and when you consult Task Manager, it says that Firefox is "Not Responding". Thanks for the shared knowledge!
