Every once in a while a box pops up which says Software Update in the top left corner, says "Update Failed" and says "Something is trying to trick Firefos into accepting an insecure update. Please contact your network provider and seek help".

Try to change https://aus2.mozilla.org to https://aus3.mozilla.org in the pref app.update.url on the about:config page if that pref shows aus2 in the value.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.
Filter: app.update.url
