Why 2 copies of Windows sizing icons, why back button not working, why no web address showing, why web address not changing when I change tabs, why if F4 almost unrecognisable???
Since V4 my Firefox shows a double blue bar at the top with two copies of the minimise/maximise/close icons. It does not open my default website when I start it, it does not show the full web address in the usual panel or if it does this does not change when I change tabs, the back and forward buttons do not work. Tried reloading V4 but no change.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

Many thanks. This was easy and seems to have fixed it - quick test only so far. A big relief as I was on the point of changing my loyalty to Opera!
Suspect it might solve some of the other weird faults other have reported too.
