close firefox 4 and restart and get msg firefox already running but not responding

close a session of firefox 4 on xpsp3 pc by either the file--exit or x in upper right corner and pc goes back to desktop. if you then click on firefox icon you get a msg that firefox is already running but not responding. close the session etc. if click ok and then click icon firefox opens

Did you try to give Firefox a bit more time before restarting?
