If you want to play Windows media files then you need too install the Gnome MPlayer and the Gecko Media player plugin. You can check the software repositories of your Linux distribution to see if those packages are available. If not then you may need to compile them yourself.

i have mplayer and gnome player; but every time mplayer comes on whenever i try to play a downloaded video.

and for some files such error message comes,

for audio files playlist does not work in mplayer.

no updates appear for linuxmint.
