I refreshed Firefox, I now I receive this message for every website I try to reach: Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead

more options

Today, May 15, 2019, I refreshed Firefox and once again I can't get into any website (other than the support site), and this warning message comes up again: Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead.

I had this problem a few weeks ago (and so did many people) and fixed it by updating to a new version of Firefox that eliminated the problem. I have tried updating again, and it turns out I have the most recent version.

The only security I have on my laptop is Windows Defender Security Center.

Hi laynaa, sorry to hear about this problem and thank you for sharing your add-ons list. The list mentions AdGuard. I think AdGuard also intercepts all your browsing and in order for Firefox to trust AdGuard as a "man in the middle, the certificate it uses to create fake website certificates need to be added to Firefox's certificate store. The old file was removed by the Refresh.

Presumably AdGuard has a feature or instructions to make Firefox compatible with its filtering. Could you check the AdGuard documentation or, if you haven't tried it already, do a normal shut down and restart of Windows in case AdGuard's startup routine includes taking care of this for you?

If that isn't it, on one of the error pages, could you click the "Advanced" button and look at the SEC_ERROR code there? A "man in the middle" issue usually triggered either SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER or MOZILLA_PKIX_ERROR_MITM_DETECTED.

Also, click the "View Certificate" button if there is one to view who issued the certificate. If that button isn't present, clicking the code will usually show a block of gibberish representing an encoded version of the certificate. You can past that here, or a site like the following can decode it and show whether the issuer is someone you recognize:
