This is what I did. TB is set up with imap to ProtonMail Took TB Offline. Moved emails from Local Folders to ProtonMail inbox. Put TB back online TB started to sync up, however timed out and all emails were lost.

Is there any way to recover them? There were about 25k emails over several years.

Did you move folders in the profile (i.e. in your filesystem using your file manager), or did you move messages in Thunderbird?

Did you move messages, or folders?

You can't move folders in the profile into IMAP-based accounts. When Thunderbird goes back online, if there's a difference between the contents of the folders in Thunderbird and in the server, then the server wins.

You'd have to move those messages within Thunderbird, so it can post the transferred content to the appropriate servers.

And with email it seems you need to do it with many moves of small numbers of messages. That's partially why I am averse to moving folders.

Thanks for that. Good to know. I managed to recover my emails from a backup. I tried moving just emails all at once but will move the emails in small numbers from now on.

Bit of a pain but oh well.
