Firefox Quantum is a nightmare, and just going back to your old Firefox version is a triple nightmare, why does Firefox want to make people so miserable?
I'm perfectly fine with my old version of Firefox, 54.0.1.
But started getting this annoying prompt all the time, "Do you want Firefox to make changes to your computer". So finally I just said YES! already, and Firefox Quantum loads.
Now, every time I open it, it keeps prompting me anyway, "Do you want Firefox to make changes to your computer?".
So, I realize, "OK, yet another Firefox update "Migraine Headache", time to restore older version of Firefox". I give Firefox alot of credit for the option to go back to an older version.
So, I restore 54.0.1 again, and have to transfer all my bookmarks from another computer because they disappeared.
But, Firefox Quantum keeps opening up when I try to open 54.0.1.
So, I uninstall Firefox Quantum and re-install, yet again, 54.0.1.
Guess what, although uninstalled, Firefox Quantum keeps opening up instead of 54.0.1 each time I re-open Firefox.
So, I have to restore my computer to an earlier restore point.
And, my old Firefox 54.0.1 won't open.
So, I have to re-install Firefox 54.0.1, for the 3rd time.
Now, I have to transfer my bookmarks over again, but, now my bookmarks toolbar is missing.
Now, it's time to do another Google Search to solve my problem because all the Firefox FAQs don't tell me a thing.
Now, I realize each time I tried to re-import my bookmarks trying to get the toolbar to come over, kept on doubling up my Bookmarks list so I have to delete some odd bookmarks.
Now, I have a quality version of Firefox, it's wonderful.
I don't say yes to "update?" because it never fails to be a 5 hour nightmare just to go back to the old version where I was in the first place. Just click "Not Now" and save yourself 5 hours of misery.
That's how Firefox has to improve their program, by torturing everybody?

Your experience is very unusual. Most users automatically upgrade from one version to the next without prompts, and do not attempt to downgrade. The prompts could be caused by setting your shortcut to run Firefox as administrator, or by disabling the maintenance service, I haven't experimented with those settings myself.
In the future, if Firefox has updated but it is unable to clear the "staged" update files so they keep trying to run at each startup, you can remove them by hand:
Open the updates folder by pasting the following path into the Windows 7 Start menu search box and pressing Enter:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\updates
That should expand to the hidden folder:
C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Local\Mozilla\updates
Here you can see folders for any staged updates that will install on your next Firefox restart. If you see any folders here, go ahead and remove them.

Why are you importing bookmarks, and from where? Try restoring one of Firefox's own bookmark backups, which completely wipes your bookmarks and replaces them with the contents of the backup. See:

To turn different bars on and off, you can use one of these methods to show the toolbar list and select the desired bars there:
- right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank spot on the tab bar (or the "+" button)
- (menu bar) View > Toolbars
On Windows, tap the Alt key to activate the menu bar temporarily. - in Customize mode > Show/Hide Toolbars (see: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars)
To turn on the Bookmarks Toolbar, Menu Bar, or other bars, click it on the list.
