Since a recent update I am no longer able to send group emails by just entering the name of the address book that contains the addresses of a group. When I enter an address book name, for example Friends, Thunderbird no longer finds it.

If I go directly to Address Books & select the one I want, then click on Write, an email sending window opens with the TO: field empty. In the past the TO: field would have contained the group, but not now.

Please can anyone help me restore this group feature.

Hi, I Disabled add-ons, but the problem still persists. I am sure that previously I was able to go to an address book, select it & then click Write, to produce an email to everyone in that address book.

The other way I used to do it was from the usual email sending window. I would start typing the address book name & it would find it. Now if I correctly type the address book name it just appears in RED because it cant find it.

Has something changed or am I wrongly remembering how to send group emails ??

Many Thanks, you were right. I was expecting an address book to act as a mailing list, To produce a new mailing list you have to select an address book & then click on New List. This then produces a window so you can type in the individual email addresses it is to contain. The mailing list name then appears as a separate address within the address book (for future re-use ). It can be edited by double clicking on it.

I am sure I used to be able to just use an address book as a mailing list. I had no separate mailing lists & I have been using Thunderbird for a couple of years.

I have just noticed a slight bug with the mailing list. When I edited it to add another address it disappeared from the address book. When I clicked on another address book & then clicked back again it reappeared. It does this every time I edit it. This was a bit worrying the first time it happened as I thought it was lost.

Thanks again for helping me to get the group email facility back.
