It only suggests or auto-completes from "collected address book". I just recently started using Thunderbird so my main address book was imported and is indeed in there. I just can't get it to search ALL the address books to auto complete?

After an internet search, I tried a suggestion of disabling all add-ons but that did not work. Restarting Thunderbird did not work. I'm open to other ideas, because it is very frustrating. Even my iphone auto completes the address.

Inspect this imported address book carefully. Make sure the email addresses are indeed filed as email addresses and not nicknames or display names.

Yes!!! You are correct!!! When it imports, it puts it all under name and does not separate the email address under the correct heading! So now how do I fix that. I have literally several hundred contacts in that address book. Do I have to do them one by one or is there an easier way? I tried to import again from the file I saved on my desktop, but it did it exactly the same way.

Ok...I imported it again and took the check mark out of every field except the email and it worked! It's not perfect because some don't have the name, but it's fine. Thank you sooooooooooo much! I never would have thought about that!

Unfortunately, my situation is different from pamendella's. All the email addresses in my books have the email addresses in the right field. (They're not imported, but collected over time...)
