Thunderbird overcorrects my addresses added to the Address Book. Why?

I put names and addresses into the Address Book. When I start typing, Thunderbird covers what I'm typing with other possible names and addresses. However, if I make a mistake typing, Thunderbird automatically fills the space in with some other combination of a name and an address. The other addresses cover up what I am typing so that it's easier for me to make a mistake. Then, I have to delete the whole mistakenly-added address and start all over. This Thunderbird action is irritating. How can it be corrected so that I can type a name and an address without Thunderbird's interference?

When you start typing, Thunderbird uses the info and offers possible email addresses. At this point you would stop typing and select the correct email address from the list. This means you do not need to type the entire email address thus resulting in fewer mistakes.

You can switch this 'Address Autocompletion' off here: 'Menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Options' > 'Composition' > 'Addressing' tab When addressing messages, look for matching entries in: uncheck 'Local address books' If using a 'Directory Server' uncheck that as well. click on OK

Howerver, there is a much easier method of using the address book to enter 'TO' email address fields.

Do you use the 'Contacts Sidebar' ?

If no or not sure what it is, enable the 'Contacts Sidebar'. In a new 'Write' message 'View' > select 'Contacts Sidebar' or press keyboard F9 key

You can select an address book or search for contact/email address select the name of contact and click on 'Add to TO' button you can also select several contacts by holding down the 'Ctrl' key whilst selecting and then add all the names just with one click on add to etg: 'AddtoTO' button.

Never need to type email address if person is in any address book, so email address is always exactly as entered in the address book.

Thanks, everyone. I turned off the "autocomplete." I still don't understand why it "autocompletes" a new address that I'm putting in for the first time. That function doesn't make sense to me, since these are new, not old, addresses.
