I am using Firefox 54.0 and Thunderbird 52.2.1. Recently (four days ago) all links to websites inside messages stopped working. I can copy and paste the link into Firefox and it gets me there, but clicking on it in the message box does nothing.

I have done all the suggested moves on the Thunderbird Help page that relates to this problem:

made sure Firefox is the default browser
no app is specified in HTTP type
  no "incorrect preference" in network.protocol.handler
have started Thunderbird in Safe mode with no extensions.

None of them made the hyperlinks work.

It was working for months. I have added no new extensions to either Thunderbird or Firefox.

check the windows 10 settings for default browser. Microsoft have a nasty habit of changing them without notice to edge and when things are changed sometimes the change breaks things.

Yeah, I am onto that business about Microsoft changing the apps to their own. I checked that and it is still Firefox.

Thanks anyway.

I occasionally get this in Firefox, too. Unbelievable, that a browser, a tool made precisely for opening links loses the ability to open links. A right-click and "open link in new tab" may be necessary, but Thunderbird doesn't offer that kind of option.

A close down and restart of Firefox usually sorts that.

Thunderbird has other local problems. A couple of other suggestions here.

Zenos, I have tried all the other suggested fixes. I might do a little more troubleshooting, see if the Thunderbird links work with another browser. If all else fails, I will stop using Thunderbird. Or Firefox.

Thanks.

OK. After further investigation, the plot thickens. Or rather, thins. The culprit seems to be Firefox. I changed the default browser to Edge, then Internet Explorer, and finally Opera. All three work fine with links clicked from Thunderbird messages. Only Firefox fails.

If I don't find out why soon, I will just switch away. Of all the browsers, FF ought to work with Thunderbird flawlessly, both being done by Mozilla and all.
