My mail box is over quota, but I cannot delete any message anymore. What should I do ?

My mailbox was around 80% full, but I received several big messages which got it above 100% quota. I tried to delete these messages, but i always get the message that this cannot be done because my mail box is over quota !!! So do you have any idea on how I can get out of this loop ? Thank you very much in advance.

I think you need to go to your email provider's webmail portal (via your browser) and see what you can delete there.

Be aware that many actions in Thunderbird (e.g. deleting, archiving) won't necessarily actually remove anything from the server. You'd probably need to move things to your Local Folders account in Thunderbird (stored on your own hard disk) in order to free up space on the server. And you may need a bit of elbow room to work in before you can do this.

Shift+delete may help you as it tends to provoke an instant and permanent deletion, rather than moving messages to the Trash folder.

Thanks a lot Zenos ! Your advice was excellent, specially that Shift+delete tip. It helped to avoid the rejection of the delete action as the message is not moved to the trash folder. Thanks again.

Do you regularly compact your folders inside of Thunderbird? If not you need to. Deleting something in Thunderbird marks it for deletion and hides it. Nothing is removed until you compact folders.

It's still not helping m. the shift+delete was great but still at 100% quota and i have deleted everything from everywhere possible. Can't get to the wemail portal throught the browser ither? please help

Ringtons, contact your provider. They set quotas not Thunderbird.
