Each time I open Mozilla, all my emails re-upload from the server and disappear back to the server on closing. I can't delete or save any. How can I return to the original settings I had before?

The person created a duplicate question only 20 minutes after asking the first time. Please do not created duplicate questions as it can cause confusion over continuity of query and waste time. So all responses are now in this quesion:
