My computer crashed but I was able to retrieve my files from the damaged hard drive. What is the location of my bookmarks file? I haven't been able to find them.

Hi dsgillespie, the bookmarkbackups folder is completely missing?

Is the places.sqlite file present?

Your "live" bookmarks were in a database file named places.sqlite along with your history. There also was a folder of backups called bookmarkbackups.

These are in your Windows profile folder,

C:\Users\username

in hidden folder. To turn off hiding of hidden files and folders, see: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files

Then drill down:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

From there, your actual Firefox profile folder name is semi-randomized, so I have no way of knowing what it is, but if you click into it then you should file these files/folders.

Unfortunately I could not find my bookmarks on my back-up hard drive. I can find the Mozilla/firefox/profiles folder but there are no bookmarks there and no back-up dates appear so it seems that my backup system did not capture them??

Hi aneel36, you can create a new profile, then try swapping in the old places.sqlite file to see whether Firefox can read and use it. If not, you could research database utilities, but I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope.

What is your OS?
