Changing background image, new version .jpg does not show
Hallo. I am trying to change the background *.jpg image of an email in Thunderbird. Having selected and entered my choice of new image, and clicked to finalise, no image appears. Nor can I recover the old image by re-entering the old details.
I would add that a similar problem exists within SeaMonkey/ Composer.

Process: This only works for composing in HTML format.
Open new Write message click in the content area to get focus 'Format' > 'Page colours & Background' click on 'Choose file' locate .jpg image which must be stored somewhere on your computer select image and click on 'Open' click on 'OK'
Note that small images will repeat to cover the area. In which case open a program like 'Paint' Create a white background which will be large enough to cover the main area of email. Insert the image and position it eg: across the top. then save the new image with extra white space. Now you can insert as detailed above and it will appear across the top with a white area for rest of email.
This inserts a background image
To check the background file attribute and value:
Open new Write message click in the content area to get focus 'Format' > 'Page colours & Background' click on 'Choose file' locate .jpg image which must be stored somewhere on your computer select image click on 'Open' Click on 'Advanced Edit' button
In HTML Attributes tab locate and highlight the attribute called 'background' look at the Value
What does it say? eg: file:///C:/Users/UserName/Desktop/ImageFile/Rosechain.jpg
Please copy paste what you have into this question.
click on 'OK'
Thank you. Sadly, problem not solved. I would emphasize that I am trying to change a background image. Having selected a replacement jpg, the correct image shows in the small window in the Page & Background window as does the file name. Advanced edit also shows the correct file name. But no image shows in the background of the email. Even deleting the file reference from both places, closing down the email, retarting the email then going through the procedure again with a jpg file produces no background.
This works for me.
1. Start a new message, click in body to give it focus
2. Click Format/Page Colors and Background
3. Click in Background Image to give it focus
4. Insert URL (local or remote), click OK
5. Voila!
