Thunderbird 143.0.1

My TBird updated this morning and everything turned to crap...

I have TBird set to check for emails every 15 minutes on 4 accounts. There are also 3 accounts that I monitor and check manually...

As soon as the 143.0.1 update touched home base TBird went ballistic. Withing in seconds of it checking for mail on the four accounts it then started deleting the accounts. Any mail was down loaded then poof!! No mail and No mail account. I had to crash dive my laptop to to stop it. Spent 3 hours trying to recover the emails and accounts and managed to reclaim 3 accounts out of the 4 but lost all the emails... After all that effort I was totally peeved and decided to uninstall TBird and revert to an older version... The icing on the cake TBird wont unistall because the YES button on the TBird Helper window wont activate...

After more than thirty years of supporting Firefox and Thunderbird... You have really dropped the ball with this one... As far as me getting an email when someone answers the thread... Good Luck...

Hello,

I have TB 140.3.1esr (64-bit) running on Windows 11. everything works as expected, I love it!

I can't find anywhere that allows me to change the folder's (on the left) font type/style; right now it's all bold style. I was able to change the size but not the type/style.

Does anyone know how to do that, please?

Thank you

I have been using Thunderbird for a few months and changed my Google Password(even though Im not quite sure if the error wasnt already occuring before that), but now when I go on Thunderbird it gives me a popup window that says "Enter credentials for name@gmail.com on imap.gmail.com". Theres a field for the email-adress, but when I click "Next" theres the following error: "400. That’s an error. The server cannot process the request because it is malformed. It should not be retried. That’s all we know."

These are the things I tried: Entering the old or new Password. Checked if the config is set to OAuth2 in both incoming and outgoing servers and enabled on Gmail-Account. Deleted and tried to (unsuccessfully) reregister my Thunderbird-Account. The same error pops up when it checks my password after the configuration.

I dont know if the password change is actually the cause, since I think I remember the error message appearing earlier today, before I changed the password, but Im not sure. Also, I have another account linked to my Thunderbird, with no changed credentials, and while there is no similar error message, thunderbird suddenly also has problems connecting to it and asks to retry a few times (3-4) before actually connecting everytime I open it.

Dear Thunderbird Support Team,

I am reaching out for assistance with opening .tmp files that originate from Mozilla Thunderbird. These files are approximately 650MB in size and contain copies of my text messages, which I would like to recover.

Unfortunately, I no longer have Mozilla Thunderbird installed, and the .tmp files do not open in any other text editor. I would appreciate any guidance or help in retrieving the contents of these files, as it is crucial for me to access these messages.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I used TB for many years on several computers. Last week, I had to reinstall TB on a Win 11 computer, and tried to migrate my TB profile from the Win 10 computer. However, this is an ongoing problem. After several attempts, I have a TB profile on the Win 11 computer that seems to look OK. However, when I open TB, not all the local folders appear in the TB Local folders menu. I read several discussions and guides from other TB users, and tried the suggested fixes. They did not solve the problem. The Local Folders exist in the profile in the Mail folder. When I open the Local Folders, I can see all my local folders that were copied from the TB profile on the Win 10 computers. These include .mozmsgs and .sbd folders. When scrolling down in the Local Folders, after the .mozmsgs and .sbd folders, I can see pairs of folder names w/o extensions (the open with notepad and contain text) and files with the same names but with .msf extensions.

So, theoretically, all the local folders should show up when opening TB. But they don't.

At this stage, I don't know what to do, and I would appreciate your help.

Thank you.

The new machine is not quick to send a post to junk or trash. I see a message about downloading it before I see it move. Going over settings comparing both, old machine was set to a Pop mail server. The remote helper changed that oh New one to IMAP Mail server. I'm assuming that is the problem but I can't find how to change the new setting from IMAP to POP. There is a red Delete button on the A/C settings page. Should I try that?

Also since I couldn’t use the profile from corrupted old machine I've manually input everything in the new. I have used the Draft files in the old machine as a sort of reminder for me and want to copy it and bring it Into the new machine. Is there a way to do that?

I hope this is concise enough.

This error message keeps popping up many times a day and is very annoying. I notice that others are getting the same error message but haven't found a fix for it. See image of the whole error message attached.

The weird thing is no matter which of the 3 options I choose it keeps coming back... sometimes within a few second. Also it doesn't prevent me from getting my email. Really odd.  ???

Anyone find a fix yet? Thanks.

openssl signed messages show verification error 1041

Hallo,

in an effort to understand why one s/mime signed message I received could not be verified by Thunderbird (140.3.0esr (64-bit) on Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS) (error 1041, "unknown problems with this digital signature"), but by all other clients I and others could check (including cli tools openssl, cmsutil), I did a few tests using my own certificate (using rsaEncryption, SHA256).

Inital observation: Messages signed with "openssl smime -sign -in msg.txt -to <email> -from <my-email> -subject test -signer mycert.pem -inkey mykey.pem -out signed.eml" and opened in Thunderbird showed error 1041. Any modifiers like -crlfeol, -text, -binary, ... did not make a difference.

Omitting signed attributes (-noattr) however helped. The signature was verified.

Looking at the signed attributes, nothing seems wrong: hash in messageDigest is correct, sha256 and rsaEncryption is given. Checking more carefully the signature, the hash of the attribute section is also correct. Manually verifying the DER attribute section with the given signature is also fine.

The question is, what is the reason that Thunderbird rejects the signature? I didn't manage to produce a log output of the verification, so this general error 1041 is all I have. Is Thunderbird more strict as openssl? And if so, at what point?

The only point I see where there could be a problem in handling the attributes is the header of the DER attribute section. In the full signature this starts with 0xa0, as stand-alone block it should be 0x31 - only then the hash matches. However, that's wild guessing.

Any ideas? Already some info on how to access a log output on the verification would help.

I was using MS outlook and recently I could not connect. Apparently ATT made a change so that instead of a password you need a Secure email Key. Since I needed to make a change I thought I'd try Thunderbird mail, but I still need the KEY. After a number of efforts with the ATT AI and human support people I could not find where the Key is entered on ATT. Now I know this forum is about Thunderbird and not ATT, but there must be Thunderbird users that have ATT and have made a seccussful connection. There are a few ATT help pages that outline how to do this, but each time I look at my ATT profile I can not find where to enter the Secure Mail Key. Is there anyone that can help me with this? THanks Mike

Hi. I have recently compressed thunderbird which has wiped two servers. I have three pop accounts on thunderbird. I have a functioning email service on the machine that I compressed but another machine and my smartphone have no emails. I have checked on the servers to confirm they have not archived or trashed my emails but everything is gone. How can I reload the servers from my only good copy?

Suddenly, my "main" comcast account is no longer accessible via Thunderbird. I have three accounts set up: two comcast and one gmail. The gmail and one comcast account appear to be all right. When I try to access the comcast one I call main, I receive the window shown in the uploaded image. It seems as if TB has somehow forgotten the way it accesses "main" accounts. I have verified that the "main" account is fine on the comcast server by logging into it. The question is if I remove the TB "main" account and recreate it, will I lose any messages? Is this likely to correct the issue?

I have Thunderbird v140.3.1esr (64-bit) on Windows 10. I made a new calendar based on a google calendar. I have 2 google calendars so I am trying to import the second one from an .ics file exported from Google calendar, but each time I try it gives me an error message.

An error occurred when writing to the calendar MyMotog! Please see below for more information. Modification_failed If you're seeing this message after snoozing or dismissing a reminder and this is for a calendar you do not want to add or edit events for, you can mark this calendar as read-only to avoid such experience in future. To do so, get to the calendar properties by right-clicking on this calendar in the list in the calendar or task view.

It has installed itself as a second calendar in Thunderbird, but I've no idea why I can't import the one into the other?

I accidentally discovered that dozens of email messages for a specific period of time (about a week) are still on my ISP's email server. Thunderbird is configured to download all messages to my computer and then delete them from the ISP email server.

Prior to, and since, that period of time (for many years) this has typically worked. Now, however, nothing I do to Thunderbird will get those messages downloaded - I can only access them using my ISP's webmail portal.

Based on web research, I've tried deleting the popstate.dat file and the global-messages-db.sqlite file to try to get Thunderbird to rebuild its indexes and/or POP3 databases to no avail. I've also tried to flag the messages as "unread" using the ISP's webmail portal, again, without success.

Any suggestions?

I have number of email filters in use. The main set of filters are all configures to "Filters for Local Folders". As I have a Gmail account I have a set of filters set to "Filters for <gmail address>". The Gmail filters always move the emails to my Inbox folder. These are then picked up and moved by additional filters in the "Filters for Local Folders".

Previously this worked well. However, under the latest release 143.0.1 under Windows 10, there are emails left in the Inbox folder which should have been filtered within 10 minutes. Often they are there for many hours before being processed.

When I have unfiltered emails in the Inbox folder, to make sure the filters are correctly configured, I run the "Run Filters on Folder" option on the Inbox folder and it works perfectly.
