Hello. Since updating to 7.0.1, my own website does not display correctly on my Mac. There is no background behind the text and when I scroll down, the text and pictures all merge together. Any thoughts much appreciated.

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their colors and that you haven't enabled High Contrast in the Accessibility settings.

  • Firefox > Preferences > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : [X] "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above"

Thanks for reply. Unfortunately, I've checked those options and the problem is still there.

THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. We have this same problem too, anyone using mac with the new FF version must be seeing our large website very badly too. IN PARTICULAR -BACKGROUNDS THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO BE BLACK APPEAR CLEAR, SO MULTIPLE PAGES STACK UP AND INTERMINGLE WITH THE ONES BEHIND THEM. We have a 50+ page website that looks fine on all other browsers except the new ff. like the chris225, the settings changes dont help. I could roll back my own machine to a previous version I suppose, but all the other ff mac users are looking at our site with new ff too and it completely sux. Please fix urgently!!! thank you.

Can you attach a screenshot?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed the maximum file size (1 MB).

Can you test the site on other platforms to see if it only happens on a Mac?

Does it work if you do not set full black in the background image, but use #010101 as the color?

background-image: url("http://www.chrisconnelly.co.uk/userimages/9_black.gif");

I have seen this issue before on Mac with a GIF background image that is black.

I'm on Linux and don't see any problem.

Found this this bug about a similar issue on Mac with a (black) background image:

  • bug 697979 - firefox for mac some website backgrounds are not drawn

Thanks. If I open the link to the 9_black.gif there isn't anything displayed. I haven't had a chance to try changing the website background colour, which I think I what was suggested. Screenshots attached of how the page looks loaded and then if I scroll down.

That second screenshot really looks bad.

Try to disable hardware acceleration to see if that helps.

  • Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

You can also try to see if toggling smooth scrolling has any effect.

  • Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > General: Browsing: "Use smooth scrolling"

The issue is not about how *I* configure firefox to fix this problem the question is - how, as a web designer, do I modify the web page so that this problem does not occur for viewers who are coming to my site using firefox 7.0.1?

Does anyone have an answer to THAT question?
