You need to provide more information. What password? Account? Primary? email host, such as AOL, GMAIL? POP or IMAP?

THe main problem is why does Thunderbird have to be reinstalled everyday, this is the problem that needs fixing. windows 10 never had a problem with it before the new upgrade

it is my main email account it takes in emails from my main provider plusnet and gmail. The message i get when i try send an email is "Enter your password for ianguest on relay.plus.net:" I think this can be solved when i contact plusnet but it should not have happened with just an upgrade.

I have never heard of this happening at all on windows, although my understanding is windows does on occasion uninstall software. Why I can not speculate. This thread on Micrisift support might shed some light.

All instances of Thunderbird being missing on each restart I have seen have involved Linux or Apple products. One allow the download to simply be run from the temp folder without installing and deleted on restart, the other on Linux was similar. I am not aware of a method of getting Thunderbird to vanish on Windows.

For a long time now, ISP's have been restricting the sending of email using a relay service to reduce spam. So My guess is there are issues with exactly how you are sending mail. Perhaps using old setting from an ISP that now does not support relaying. When sending mail from your google account you should be using a google (Gmail) SMTP server.

Plus net say you should use the relay.plus.net server to send mail from their accounts. https://www.plus.net/help/email-guides/how-to-set-up-plusnet-email/ they also suggest passwords are optional, for some customers. This is a very bad idea from a security standpoint and plusnet is perhaps one of a group of one providers that assume because you are sending from the IP address they allocated for your connection it is you. Generally setting a password is Yes for any connection. They also limit it to "This is only available if you've got an active Plusnet broadband account" Reality should be just set a password. My reading of their web site leads me to think they use the same user name and password for both incoming and outgoing mail. Thunderbird will record a separate incoming and outgoing mail once you correct your settings.

> I am having to reinstall thunderbird daily

Actually reinstalling from a download? Or just needing to add accounts on every startup?

more options

Yes I have to download the program everyday, and then recover from 'default'

more options

And why are you downloading every day?

For example, because the startup icon disappears? Is Thunderbird missing from installed apps ?

I have to reinstall as when i go to the start up shortcut \i get a message telling me I have a old version of Thunderbird and I need to create a new profile (or something like that). So I have to go to the thunderbird site and download the program. It the downloads, I import from default and the it brings all the emails from the 10 August down again and then works of a period of time. When I close for the night of simply put laptop to sleep next time i want to access my emails I usually get the same message telling me it is an old version and i need a new profile and i have to repeat it. getting beyond a joke now

If it keeps asking for you to create a new mail account then it does not necessarilly mean the account data is lost but Thunderbird does not know where it is. As does not locate newly added account on the next restart, something is not getting updated correctly.

Obviously, you do not need to keep downloading and installing Thunderbird because it opens whether you see accounts or not. It will also always open using same profile because I'm assuming you are not deleting all of those files and folders which are stored in a different location and are separate from the program itself.

You need to provide information - I'm assuming you are using a Windows OS.

Do the following:

  1. Access Firewall: - make sure Thunderbird is an allowed program
  2. Access Anti-Virus program and set up the Thunderbird profile folder exempt from scanning.
  3. If you have any Cleanup type of programs like CCLeaner or WiseCleaner then make sure Thunderbird profile folder is exempt from scanning.

Confirm you have set up the above. What version of Thunderbird is currently installed?

  • Menu icon > Help > More Troubleshooting information.
  • Under 'Application Basics' - 'Profile folders' - click on 'Open Folder'

a new window opens showing the contents of your 'profile name' folder

Make sure you have the 'View' showing 'Details' so you can see columns 'Name', 'Type', 'Modified date' and 'Size' Also make sure you have allowed to show all extensions.

Look for 'prefs.js' file. Do you have a load of additional 'prefs-n.js' files where the 'n' is a number? Post an image showing what you see and make sure it also shows the path so we can see the profile name.

Then look for the 'compatibility.ini' file - open it using Notepad - post an image showing its contents or copy paste them into a comment in this forum.
