Browser history will not delete even after I read and tried all suggestions posted here-goes for individual entries as well as deleting entire history.

SInce last update browser history (Mac OS 10.9.5 with no intention to update) will not delete by any method - Using scrolling keys, add-ons, tools -- nothing works. I have read all I could find in the forum and tried all of it with no success. I've tried clearing entire history, just a day's worth, individual items -- nothing works. If this is a a glitch in latest update(s), is there a fix? Thank you.

Places Maintenance {web link} Allows to run Maintenance tasks on the database that drives Places, the bookmarks and history module behind Firefox.

Open the Add-ons Manager. Locate the add-on and press the Options button. Then follow the directions.

Make sure you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode (Always use Private Browsing mode; Never Remember History).

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy -> Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
  • remove checkmark: [ ] "Always use Private Browsing mode"

If the Places Maintenance extension can't repair the places.sqlite database then remove all places.sqlite file(s) in the Firefox profile folder to make Firefox rebuild the places.sqlite database from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
