How can I save the cache/cookies for specific websites but delete all other cache/cookies upon exiting Firefox?

more options

I am using Firefox 14.0.1. I have it set to delete cache/cookies on exit, keeping my "foxden" clean. However, if I want to save the cache and cookies for a particular website, i.e a flash game that will save my current level, I cannot unless i disable the cache -clearing feature. I would like to be able to "add an exception" to the cache-clearing or at the very least, be able to copy the relevant files for that page and paste them back before opening Firefox again. Any ideas?

That is not possible.
You can only clear the entire cache.

If you do not want specific content to get cached or written to disk then you need to switch on Private Browsing.

For cookies you must not use clear history, but let all cookies expire when you close Firefox and make an allow exception for cookies from domains that you want to keep.

For cache, I suspect that the problem of game settings is not so much the disk-based files, but the Flash object storage ("Flash cookies"). I can't recall which cache clearing options clear only the files and which clear both the files and Flash storage, but perhaps that is documented in the knowledge base so you could test the theory.

For cookies, as cor-el suggestion, what I find most convenient is to set Firefox to accept cookies only for the current session by default. For sites where I want to be remembered, I create an exception for that site which allows them to set persistent cookies.

  • The default setting is here:

orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Options > Privacy

With "Use custom settings for history" set, "Keep until: I close Firefox"

  • To create site-specific permissions, you can use the Exceptions dialog on that same tab, or use the Page Info dialog's permissions tab. To access the Page Info dialog:

- right-click the page > View Page Info
- classic Tools menu (Alt+t) > Page Info
