Any time I middle click a blank space on a webpage to quickly scroll up/down or side/side, the screen displays about 300 middle buttons on the screen.

Try to disable hardware acceleration.

Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

Thanks cor-el. Disabling HDWR acceleration did the trick. Windows Update unfortunately said my NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT is up-to-date...

Driver Date: 5/20/2011 Driver Version: 8.17.12.7533

I'm just going to leave the option off for now...
