
problems with latest update in Thunderbird
Since the latest update to version 78.4, emails are extremely slow to open, message filters are working very slowly... takes minutes, some emails won't open at all (only get a blank white page) and the Reply to Sender and Reply to Group buttons in group emails are not working (just get a new tab which is white, with "loading" at the top of the tab, doesn't load no matter how long I let it sit). Emails don't display immediately even though they show as downloaded, I have to wait, there is a message saying "downloading email" down in the bottom left. Finally, the box which comes up showing how many and what emails have downloaded does not always disappear, it hides part of the message. Most of these problems only started today 31st October 2020, some have been happening for a couple of days. This is so frustrating. I hope you can help. Win

As a start, many display issues in 78 can be fixed by starting in safe mode (hold Shift when launching TB), checking 'Reset toolbars & controls', 'Make changes and restart'. Slowness may be caused by an antivirus/TB incompatibility. The AV should be set to exclude the TB profile folder from scanning, leaving the real-time background enabled.
