My emails come into the window okay, but when I try to either shift or delete a specific email that is the first one of that session nothing happens. I usually click on it again and the whole screen will dim. The message at the top of the page is that Thunderbird is "unresponsive". However, if I then wait 1-2 minutes (have to wait as the screen is also frozen) it frees itself and the email shifts to where I want it and the screen un-freezes. This has been happening since I began using Win 10, despite one or two Thunderbird auto updates in that time. Is this a problem that is not "fixable"?

When thunderbird is started, several thing occur. If you have IMAP mail accounts then there is much synchronising going on to get folders updated and ready for use. Imap mail accounts see a remote view and so this will incur some lag as emails are not stored on the computer unless you synchronised for offline use.

It is also possible that you have setup an Anti-Virus product or the default one on your computer to scan Thunderbird folders and flies on Startup and also when downloading/sending emails.

It is also possible that your computer is being otherwise occupied by checking for OS updates, AV updates etc and so pausing Thunderbird.
