I don't want my sent mail to appear in the Inbox, but I can't find a way to set that.

I just switched to Thunderbird from Apple Mail because Gmail doesn't work with Mail under Yosemite. I am trying to set up Thunderbird, but can't find a way to not have the sent mail appear in the Inbox. Also, I used Mail before because it could handle Exchange accounts as well. Is there any way to access Exchange accounts in Thunderbird?
