Can not send an email via Thunderbird , but can if we use Outlook.

We have an ntlworld email account. We can not use thunderbird to send an email , even if it is to reply to an email we have received. However Outlook we allow us to send and reply to emails . Can someone please explain ?

What are your settings? They suggest smtp.virginmedia.com, 465, SSL/TLS, normal password, email address.

Create an app password and use that in TB instead of the account password. Remove the entries for the account from Saved Passwords in Settings, restart TB, enter the app password when asked for a password.
