I am a long time individual user that does a lot on historical research. At 73 I am unfamiliar with the technology and the various terminology. What is VPN? Is there a cost? What are pros and cons?

Hey, To put it simply a vpn(virtual private network) creates sort of a tunnel. Suppose you are browsing any website, your service provider would know the site you are browsing(not the confidential details like credit card numbers etc.),a vpn creates a tunnel through which any other third party can't know the sites you have browsed and data associated with them. The Firefox Private Network (Desktop Environment-Windows, MacOS,Linux) costs $2.99 a month and Mozilla VPN(Mobile Devices) costs $4.99 a month. As far as I know the only con of a vpn is at times it may reduce internet speed.A huge pro is an incremental upgrade in privacy.
