my write window is not visible to compose message

When I click "write" to compose message, the write window is not visible, in my windows 10 taskbar I can see that there is a write window, but when I hover on it on the task bar,it does not show up on my desktop, and I cannot maximize it or restore it. It worked yesterday! I did not change any settings. it's thunderbird 45.2, I'm on windows 10. I am unable to take a screen shot.

look at the left end of the write window. Sometimes the column shrink completely. Click and drag it to the right.
