Hit file - new private window, FF opens new window (not private) for about 5 seconds, then immediately switches back to window that requested the new private window. This happens on three different machines at my location, all with Win 7.

This can be caused by a plugin like Flash that uses the plugin-container process in one of the tabs in that other window.

This happens in safe mode?

Can you see what is the content of that tab?

A funny thing happened on the way to the forum. After restarting in safe mode, i cannot get the failure to repeat. I've restarted in regular mode, and I've tried many permutations, with no luck. I use www.yahoo.com as my home page, so that appears when I open a private window. What does not happen is I don't get the purple glasses in the upper right.

Hi lionelbob, it's confusing, but... the purple glasses appear on private windows in a normal, non-private session, so you can tell them apart. When you start up automatically in a private session, then there are no purple glasses on any of the windows.

(Note: This is as of several versions ago, I haven't double-checked recently.)

Note that you won't get the purple mask if you are in permanent Private Browsing mode.
