My Firefox 3.6.13 will not retain Book marks added until next day.

I have added two Bookmarks to a subfolder - It accepts them and opens the page. I shut the computer (XP) and next day when I open it again, the Bookmarks are not there and cancelled bookmarks have been restored. (Firefox 3.6.13) Is there a simple solution?

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history causing Firefox to restore the bookmarks from an older JSON backup.
