Dark Mode Trouble

Once I selected Dark Mode to see what it was about and didn't like it. So I switched it back and it won't go away. I have reset to defaults and it works until I select another web page and then boom, I'm back in Dark Mode. This is an issue because if I switch to any other browser, there is no problem. I am about to uninstall your browser and go to Edge or Chrome and I do not want to do that. I have been with Firefox for a long time but never have seen this problem before. Please help me stay a loyal Firefox user.

There are three different possible scenarios:

(1) When sites ask Firefox your dark mode preference, Firefox reports that you DO prefer a dark mode

This can happen if you have a theme with light text/icons on the toolbars. Firefox will use a dark theme for built-in pages, right-click context menus, the sidebar, and also indicate to sites that you have a dark mode preference.

If you see that pattern, you can switch your theme to one that uses dark text/icons on the toolbars.

(2) Sites remember a previous dark mode preference based on either:

(A) A cookie (like Google) (B) A custom URL which has dark mode coded into it (like DuckDuckGo) (C) A setting in your account

For #2, it would be helpful to understand what site(s) have the problem.

(3) If you ever went into the about:config preferences editor and changed a theme related preference there, you may need to reverse that. Does that ring a bell?
