When attempting to edit text, highlighting a word causes brief display of some kind of icon (looks like a water faucet) just adjacent to the edit. This icon persists for about 2 seconds, then disappears. Simultaneously, I find that text selection is much more difficult. Is this a new Firefox feature (to get me to use another browser). ?

You can check the Flash player installation folder for multiple Flash player plugins and remove older version(s) of the plugin (NPSWF32) and possibly (re)install the latest Flash player.
