I just got a new hard drive and when I logged on to Firefox all my bookmarks were gone. Assuming they were store on Firefox how do I go about getting them back?

Firefox automatically creates backups of your bookmarks, which can be helpful if your bookmarks are lost or missing. To recover them, follow the instructions below.

  1. Use one of these methods to open the Bookmarks Library window:
    • Firefox 29 and above: Click the Bookmarks button Bookmarks-29 and select Show All Bookmarks.
    • Previous Firefox versions: Click the Firefox button and click on Bookmarks. (If you don't have a Firefox button, click the Bookmarks button Bookmarks button win 2 or Bookmarks menu item and select Show All Bookmarks.)
  2. At the top of the Library window, click on Import and Backup and select Restore.
  3. Click the date of the bookmark backup you want to recover.
  4. In the new window that appears, click OK.
  5. Your bookmarks from the selected date should now be restored.

For more information, see the Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer article. For other solutions, see the Recover lost or missing Bookmarks article.

If this does not appear to resolve the issue it might be because the backup of the bookmarks was saved on your old hard drive and you took that one out and replaced it with a new one.

The man who installed the new hard drive did not find any bookmarks so he told me that they would be on Firefox.

Some of the bookmarks showed up on a loaner computer I was using even though I did not use Firefox (and in fact Mozilla Firefox was not installed on the computer).

I tried the back up, but the only date available was today

Don't you have access to the old hard drive, so that you could install it in an enclosure that connects via an USB port?

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

Cor-el, as I said, the man who repaired my computer did not find any book marks on either the backup drive or the old hard drive

That "man" may not have known which files to look for and where to look for them. If a backup of your AppData folders wasn't made from the old hard drive be fore it was replaced, and the old hard drive isn't available to look thru for the correct files - your bookmarks are gone.

Okay, I have found all my book marks

I was using a loaner computer. I never logged on to Firefox on that computer. However ALL the book marks are on the book marks tab on the loaner, on the Google Chrome browser, under my husband's Google Chrome account.

Is there any way I can copy them all and send them to myself to get them on my personal computer?
