Thunderbird does not play videos or sound files. Your problem must be with whatever software you are trying to use to open the video files.
Instead of trying to "open" the file from an attached email, "save it" choose where and make sure it is a executable file that will play sound and or video. You can choose WMP, I prefer Winamp.
