I thought I had followed the instructions properly and know the password has been changed on the ISP Webmail site as that is sending and receiving.

When I try to retrieve emails in my Thunderbird Software on my Windows PC I get a message - cannot connect to Server.

Please suggest where I need to look & what sequence I should follow to locate and correct my error.

Thank you

However, the error message indicates the process has failed before getting as far as verifying passwords. I'd look at the server name (actually its address) and port settings first, followed by security and authentication settings.

Given your topic heading, I'd start by going to Tools|Options|Security|Passwords→Saved Passwords and checking what is stored there.

You can remove a wrong password, and so next time you run it, Thunderbird should ask for the required password.

Alternatively, if you're confident you know what it should be, you can double-click or right-click the current password and edit it in place.

Note that a password is normally stored twice, at least once each for incoming and outgoing connections. You'll need to review all instances of this particular password. The search box at the top will help find all occurrences of the server/account name.

Hi Zenos - thanks for all your attempts to help and for being so prompt - it is fixed now - I shall try to explain BUT am rather a technological nincompoop.

However, I tried the suggestions and the problem stayed the same - it looked to me as if all the settings were exactly as they should be.

I phoned my ISP - Phonecoop - they are VERY helpful, they were busy but got back fairly quickly - used remote support rechecked everything TWICE - could find nothing - made sure my Folders were backed up to the webmail - then deleted and restarted the whole email account in thunderbird -

So it remains a mystery but to my relief maybe unconnected with anything I did - possibly a bit of software became corrupted or something like that but no matter -

I can now both send and receive emails AGAIN>

Thank you very much indeed.
