Though my defaults are set to Google, the Yahoo tool bar / search engine seems to have commandeered my Firefox browser. None of the online instructions to remove it work. I do not find it in a list of add-on's or extensions. It is driving me crazy enough to switch to Chrome or, heaven forbid, even Internet Explorer. How the heck do I get this thing off my computer? It may have entered with my addition of the VLC Video player software. Help!!!

And, I'm currently operating in Firefox 'safe mode' and don't know how to get back to regular mode. The menu section of Firefox is certainly not helping me find any tools or settings to address this situation. Nor is doing a search for "remove Yahoo toolbar." Argh!!!!

Hi, to close Safe Mode just exit Firefox. But are you saying the problem goes away in Safe Mode? If so, it's likely to be in your add-ons: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You say you've looked at Firefox's Extensions and Plugins: Add-ons Manager (Ctrl+Shift+A), but also do a search on your PC for any suspect Yahoo programs - the installation date of anything you find might help.

You can also try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Note that not all removal programs will detect all malware, so you may need to run several or all of them.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
