In seems in the last month, the ability to open links in a new tab by middle-clicking has been removed by default. I was able to get it to work in Windows (but I don't remember how), but not in Ubuntu. I've got browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick set to true in the about:config. I've also tried restarting with all the add-ons disabled.

Hello,

What is the correct command to open Firefox in the Linux-Mint 20 command line with non-maximized window?

The command

firefox -height=300 -width=500 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/test

is ignoring the size of the window. What is the correct syntax/parameter?

Sincerely

It used to be that you could drop dictionaries in $INSTALLDIR/dictionaries and they would be used. As of Firefox 62, Mozilla started putting the default dictionary in omni.ja and sometime later started ignoring the $INSTALLDIR/dictionaries directory.

But, supposedly, we can still point to external dictionaries by either setting the $DICPATH environment variable to point to a directory that contains a hunspell dictionary (en-US.aff en-US.dic) set and it would be seen and used by Firefox. OR we can set the spellchecker.dictionary_path preference.

I am running vanilla Firefox 78.3.0 ESR under Linux and neither of the above options is working (also not working in Firefox 68ESR). I have a customized medical dictionary that I have used for many years under older versions of Firefox that I now cannot use. I am hoping someone might have some idea what is going on. Is this option now broken? And I using it wrong?

$ ls /opt/dictionary en-US.aff en-US.dic $ export DICPATH="/opt/dictionary" $ firefox

I then check for a word that I know is only in the /opt/dictionary file (in this case, "algin") and it is still showing it as misspelled, so it is not using the external dictionary I defined. I tried also adding export DICTIONARY="en-US" before launching and that didn't help.

Here's what might have happened:

Double-check the URL. Alternatively, go back. error404

My older Samsung printer also runs a web server at its LAN address for administering it.

I've always been able to login from other computers on my local network to check toner, see page counts, and so on.

There is no "force Firefox [v. 82] to connect via HTTP" in my case.

Every single attempt to access http://192.168.0.100 is rewritten by the browser to https://192.168.0.100 which I gather requires a certificate to be presented--which the old printer does not offer--after which Firefox declares "Try again."

Is there a way around this so I can get back to what used to work?

Thank you.

I know that all browsers, for security reasons, don't allow to show an svg with an embedded (external) image . But if I use, in my private localhost, in a svg an image from local (with a code like: xlink:href="myimage.jpg"), what security problem should I have? There is a way to get (maybe in about:config) a solution, so that I may show an svg with a local embedded image?

On Linux (Pop OS) when the mic or webcam is active, a notification is displayed. This is great and useful for security.

However, I cannot move or click on or do anything with it. The most annoying thing for me is it pops up directly over my system clock (See screenshot attached).

Is this icon supposed to be movable? Is clicking it supposed to do something (like activate the tab using the mic/webcam)? Is this a missing feature or bug?

I've seen some solutions regarding a custom css file that hides it entirely, but I'd still like to know when a tab is accessing it. I just want to be able to move it out of the way!

As you can see from the attached screenshot (it's amusing that the screenshot utility was captured in it), Firefox ESR has an enlarged URL textfield. It recently appeared on Debian-based systems, along with the more annoying bug solved by cor-el in my previous post. It appears when Firefox ESR is first started and on new tabs. I'm sure this is another about:config solution, but I have no idea what to search on.

Hello, I recently upgraded Firefox to the latest 82.0 (64-bits) version. I am quite sure that with that version a new problem appeared by which the Firefox windows have no border except the window title bar, and cannot be grabbed for resizing. I believe it has to do with Firefox because other windows doe not have this problem, and the firefox window has the menu "File|Edit|etc." inside the window title bar. The versions are: - Firefox see above - Compiz version : 1:0.9.12.3 - Ubuntu 16.04LTS - gtk2-engines-murrine : 0.98.2-0

Incidentally, when starting firefox on the cli, I receive the error messages copied below. Thanks for the great work, firefox must continue and grow. Regards, xgiannak

As the title implies, I am unable to open any local files on Firefox. The tab just keeps loading forever and using up all available memory until it crashes the tab. (the browser still remains operational, since the crashing process is a child process of the main browser)

I took a look at the process in GDB and it looks like it's hanging in `read () at /usr/lib/libpthread.so.0`, called from libxul.so. (possibly a spinlock, since it also grinds one of my cpu cores down) I've checked and this problem is not related to my profile, settings, or extensions.

I'm at a complete loss for what to do now to fix this, since I don't have the time or disk space to build a full debug build of Firefox and figure out what's going on.
