Booted computer today then tried to open Firefox and was advised of some kind of 'fix', which as always I ignored. But when Firefox did start up I find I now have an extremely visible bar each side of my tabs. It is black at the top (c. 2½ inches) and bright blue for the bottom 8½ inches. They do nothing (the small black part of the bar is not a slider as I first thought), they just sit there and are a major distraction.

I took a screen shot of it but cannot find a link anywhere on this page to attach/upload an image.

Can anybody advise me please how to get rid of these monstrosities? BTW - I am not very computer literate so please don't give me any mumbo-jumbo that I cannot understand!!

Cheers
 Pete

After posting above question a button was then available to upload an image - which I have done.

I trust somebody will see this and give me advice as to what it is and how to get rid of it, because, as I said in my original message it does absolutely nothing and is a distraction!

hello pete, you're probably using an addon to alter the look of your tabs - please directly contact the extension developers about that problem. they can likely give you more detailed guidance and are the only ones who can fix bugs or make necessary adjustments in the addon for new firefox versions. thank you...

Hi,

I don't believe it's an addon per se. I checked my history and the new tab that opened on starting Firefox was from Firefox themselves, mentioning Firefox 29.0 (old version 28.0) and with a clickable 'What's New' button. Having had a quick look at that I am totally baffled by it all and want no part of it.
I daresay that these bulky bars that have appeared are as a direct result of the latest version of Firefox, and quite possibly conflicting with an addon - but how do I find which addon, and why release an updated Firefox which throws up conflicts?
Without touching anything in the 'Whats New' page, after I returned to my browser, my menu bar and my bookmarks toolbar disappeared! Thankfully I figured out fairly quickly how to get them back!!
But I hope these problems aren't a sign of things to come or I will have to find another browser.
