How can I get rid of an alert that keeps on showing up for a deleted dmg that no longer exists on my computer or any external drive?

I’ve cleared the cache, cleared downloads, downloaded SearchReset (per https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/949934), & removed all related links from History.

However, I still continuously get this message:

“Opening Snagit.dmg

You have chosen to open:

Snagit.dmg

  • * * * *

from: http://download.techsmith.com

What should Firefox do with the file?”

Thank you!

Yes, that should have been downloads.sqlite in plural.

Try to delete the sessionstore.js file in case you open a page that automatically downloads this file.

Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

When do you get this alert?

Is that when you start Firefox?

Do you still have a download.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder?

1. when I start Firefox

2. yes [It says 'downloads.sqlite' (plural), but I assume that's the same?]

Continuing thanks -

So far I deleted only the sessionstore.js file, & it seems to have worked! Thank you, thank you!!

Next question: How would anyone ever begin to know this? Am I THAT dumb?

Thx again, so very much.

You're welcome.

The sessionstore.js file stores tabs and windows that were open in the previous session, so it looks that somehow a page with an automatic download got opened and that caused the download to start over again.
