Firefox OS is an Operating System.

You would need to think about rooting the device and dual booting,or replacing the Windows OS.

Realisically no Firefox OS is not likely to be useable any time in the near future on a Windows phone.

Your phone

may well be Android compatible.

For the determined there are emulators for Firefox OS and methods of installing on some devices see for instance

Noting that is starting from a rooted device which initially needs Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) installed.

If you need further info please ask on the Firefox OS forum

Thanks for replying! My phone is Android compatible... you mean you can install Android? I thought you had to buy a phone with it on? If you can install it could you provide a link please? I couldn't find anything on google.

Thanks

This all depends on the phone being compatible and it being possible to root it without bricking it, and then flash the required Android OS. It is not something I have done and it is definitely out of the scope of this forum.

They will be able to help with Firefox OS enquiries and possibly also with Android enquiries relating to Firrefox.

An alternative website to try would be

Installing other OS's on your phone is way beyond the scope of this forum, you are better off looking at an android forum for information on how to flash your phone to Android. It's probably more trouble than it's worth though.

I need to know this too, but with hardware rather than software. I'm an anti-google person myself, and here comes my mom charging in with a Samsung Galaxy Discover for Christmas with a Cricket activation.

I need Firefox OS on this thing badly. I've heard it's very simplistic and light because of that, which would be perfect for a phone like this. I am more than willing to root my phone.

Only thing is, the supported list... https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/will-firefox-work-my-mobile-device

I don't know if it's because this particular Samsung in general has a cheaper version of Android, but I don't see why it shouldn't work, in the end it's still Ice Cream Sandwich...

Hi Eric,
Thanks for posting the question. I am not sure we can directly answer this here but I can point you in the right direction for getting more information.

Your question is slightly different to the Original Post, in that part of your Question is asking why the device is not listed as supported, as you appear to consider it meets the System Requirements.

Your question is specific to Firefox OS and so you could ask on our Firefox OS forum, they may at least be able to point you to the most suitable articles or other fora, and may even give you direct answers to your questions.

Please use the link /forums/firefox-os-english-forum/new

If you post back again to confirm you have asked a question I will cross link this thread to the new question on the os-forum before this thread is closed.

You seem to have demonstrated a flaw in our workflow.

  1. We do have a specific forum for questions about Firefox OS.
  2. We have a specific start point for information about Firefox OS
    /questions/new > /questions/new/firefox-os
  3. When asking questions using the dropdown
    • it does however redirect to the standard Firefox forum /questions
      example /questions/984614
    • I am aware we have not yet really designed the Forum to handle Mobile Questions well let alone Firefox OS questions.
    • Contributors note also (will cross link & tag later)

I'm new to these forums. Sorry about the confusion ^^

As a matter of fact I already opened a topic here last night a little bit after I made this post. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/984601?

It's under marketing though. It's under Firefox OS but there was nothing relating to compatibility.

Once again, so sorry ^^"

Don't worry, nothing to apologise about. We need to make the forum easer to use and understand.

Hi Eric Benoit, In the MDN (Mozilla Developer Network) there are links to help flash the phone, also currently their work flow is to ask in stackoverflow.com with [firefoxos] tags.

Links to the documentation for this:

Thank you for your interest in this :-)
