'moderator'-type people are turning into self-styled demigods

This is probably not the right place to note this, but so far it is the only place I've found.

Many times, a more-or-less self-regulating forum like this one eventually is taken over by a bunch of spoiled, self-indulgent megalomaniacs. From what I can see, this form is heading that way.

I suggest some sort of appeal process be created and published for cases where 'mere users' get banned by one of the ego trippers.

For example, a few days ago, I got banned because a guy who calls himself "THE-ED" (or something similar, I don't feel like tracking down the exact name). My fault was THE-ED calling me a jerk, ass-hole, and related things. I repeat: he called me those things.

bye

Regardless if this is the place or not, The Edmeister and the rest of the moderators apply the rules that all of us decide.

When you agree to participate in the forum, either to receive help or help other users, you are agreeing with these rules and guidelines.

The mozillians participating here keep high standards and our moderators are those with the highest ones. If you have any issue with them, I'll encourage you to talk directly to Madalina, as pointed before, or with me and we can discuss the details.

The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other Firefox users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or Firefox developers.

If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, you can go to the Firefox Help menu and select Submit Feedback... or use this link. (You'll need to be on the latest version of Firefox to submit feedback). Your feedback gets collected at http://input.mozilla.org/, where a team of people read it and gather data about the most common issues.

The following is my opinion and does not represent the view of any Mozilla staff/volunteers or other Mozilla users.

I find the moderators here on the Mozilla support forum excellent.
They aren't out to get people, they only remove inappropriate content and block violating users.
Maybe if you explained your issue fully, to a Mozilla support forum moderator, they can help you.

Statements such as the ones that you just made are exactly why your previous account was deactivated. Please see the PM that I just sent you, as I don't care to discuss this in public with you.

You can view a complete list of the support forum rules and guidelines here.

THE-seybernetx,
Sorry you have problems and are unhappy with this Forum.

First of all I must apologise because we should not be banning someone without good reason, and should ourselves try not to use immoderate language. I am one of the Forum moderators. We are not demi Gods, and speaking for myself I know I do make mistakes and sometimes could have handled situations better. We are human, fallible, volunteers, and users of Firefox like yourself. If one of us has made a mistake then I am sorry but please do not continue such a conversation here.

Here are my suggestions.

  1. Stick by the Guidelines.
Please read and try yourself to stick to the forum Guidelines. They are here. There is an appeal process, you may discuss the matter with an Administrator.
  2. Apeal/Complain if you wish.
If you feel you do need to complain please do that by contacting one of the Administrators. Normally that would be Madalina. But I believe she may not be working this week so I suggest you try contacting Kadir by email or Private message. Note I have not deactivated your new account.
  3. If you do have some support issue requiring help please start a new thread using /questions/new

Personally I see no reason to deactivate your current account as long as you are staying within the forum guidelines. Of course any final decision would be made by an Administrator.

The whole purpose of this forum is to attempt to solve user's support issues so why not start a new thread about your Firefox problem and then post back to confirm you have done so.

Please also post back to confirm either that you have decided against appealing or that you have successfully contacted an Administrator. I will then lock this thread.

For anyone who wants to see how the participants comported themselves in the earlier thread, here's a link: Is there some way to turn off FireFox'ss forced automatic upgrade??

You're right, this isn't the place for your comments. If you want to discuss problems or complaints related to specific moderators on on this forum I think your best bet would be to contact Madalina (madasan) by private message. She's the Support Community Manager at Mozilla, as you can see from her user page and the Meet the Team page, which lists Mozilla staff, support developers, and forum moderators.

Alternately, you could post a thread here, /forums/contributors with your suggestion for some sort of appeal process be created and published for cases where 'mere users' get banned ....

However, I checked your user page, /user/955334 and you have only posted a single question or comment on this forum, and this is it. I also searched for any posts by you in the contributor forums and didn't find any. Since you said that you were "banned" a few days ago, unless you have a different user account here, you may be referring to a different Mozilla Firefox forum such as the ones at forums.mozillazine.org

AliceWyman, you and jscher2000 posted right after each other.

That is how the previous user was banned.

Also as John99 stated, you can accidently submit a solution and you may mark his post as a solution.

Sorry, I must have been looking at an old version of this thread and never saw any of the replies that followed the first one ComputerWhiz so ... I didn't see the link to /questions/969693 and I didn't realize that you had a previous user account under /user/51967 seybernetx which was deactivated.

Still, this isn't the place to discuss this. It should go to private messages.
