Firefox crashes most of the time when you start it up. I've already done a whole lot of things, like: -updating everything (firefox, plugins, addons). -removing addons -disabling / turning off plugins

It does NOT happen in save mode, so that makes you wonder. I think it has something to do with one of these things: - I updated Shockwave for Director (adobe), but the older version is still visible as a plugin. I cannot delete this plugin, though it is not installed on my computer anymore and it has no use whatsoever. I can however turn it off to see if this does the trick. It does not help, but maybe really deleting it does help? I don't know because I can't delete it.

- FireFox runs in SandBox by Avast! Sometimes it does seem like this is the problem, but sometimes he still crashes even though I open FF without SandBox.

- it does seem like hardwarespeed-up has something to do with it. But I'm not sure.

My questions: does anybody know how to really remove the old Shockwave for Director plugin? Is it possible this is caused by sandbox avast? How can I establish the hardwarespeed-up being turned off? I can turn it off, this does seem to help: it won't crash. However, when I open FF again, it is being turned on again.

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

If it does work in Firefox Safe-mode then disable all extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
